THERMAL SPRAY VETERAN PETER FOY PURCHASES PLASMA POWDERS & SYSTEMS FROM OCTAGENARIAN VT MAYOR!
Mr. Peter Foy with over 30 years of experience selling thermal spray equipment and consumables to industrial clients throughout the world has taken the reins of Plasma Powders & Systems, Inc. The company was purchased from Founder and CEO VT Mayor, popularly known “VT”, who stated “After my 85th birthday I thought it might be time to channel my energy in other directions”.
In a recent interview Peter Foy, the company’s new president, laid out his plan to grow the business and at the same time have fun with the help of 14 ex-Sulzer-Metco associates. His ambitious new strategy will introduce a series of new thermal spray guns, associated equipment with specialty powders and thermal spray wire.
VT started his career in the thermal spray industry in 1960 when his company Shotblasting and Metal Spraying Co. (P) Ltd., zinc coated the interior surfaces of 6 Leander Class Frigates for the Navy in Bombay, India. Each ship required 70,000 square feet of zinc coating. In 1980 he came to the US and started Plasma Powders & Systems Inc. with composite one step self-bonding powders for the combustion and plasma spray process.
In 1986 a new product trademarked Bondrite© Wire began being manufactured in Marlboro, NJ. Today a complete portfolio of thermal spray equipment is assembled and tested in NJ and a large inventory of materials and parts are maintained. Overhaul and repair of equipment is a growing segment of the business.
VT, over the years has been a permanent fixture at Thermal Spray Conventions from the Hague, to Kobe, Japan to Orlando and in between in various countries in the world, promoting the company’s products in exhibits at several of the conventions. He has also authored many technical papers on thermal spray at the conventions.
VT is a wonderful and generous man positively influencing every one he meets and quietly providing financial help and scholarships to people in need. His energy and health has not diminished, in fact he goes to the gym every day for a brisk workout.
